This verse implies that it's unwise to be in debt. It teaches that if you're in debt to a lender, you're a servant of that lender. Jesus said you cannot serve two masters. When you're in debt, you're chained to the responsibility of paying it off—with interest. To be free to serve God with your money, you need to be free of debt. Then all of your money and your attention can be devoted to what God would have you to do with your assets. Stay out of debt, and stay free!
