husband is going to bali, indonesia

hubby is going for a meeting in Bali, Indonesia. again, i and kids are not going with him. i don't want schenker to miss his class. and beside, i've been to Bali and the only reason I'd go back there is to buy souvenirs. yeah, since the bali bombing a few years ago, tourism in bali has really gone down. so everything i saw almost three years ago when I went with my husband to bali was very cheap. i remember buying a black dinner dress (spaghetti strapped designed with sequence all over), for only 5$! that was extremely cheap. but i haven't worn it yet because i keep forgetting i have it in my closet. i would usually go for sarees nowadays everytime we have functions to attend to.

my husband's condition with me going with him was, and i kids could go but i pay for our airfare. hahaha! i don't wanna waste my earnings in just going to bali. not worth it, i believe. so, what am i gonna be doing when hubby is away? i will play! LOL. kidding. most likely, i'd be watching movies. but i do wish though that we have that pop up tv in our living room. it does save space and if i don't want the kids to watch tv, i'd just pop it down.LOL . wishful thinking.

I use VO5 hot oil treatment and it's just great for my hair. the treatment makes my hair look shiny and smooth and nice to touch. by using it one can have an

Pneomococcal Disease and Prevention

I searched the net about pneomococcal disease and it's prevention because according to my kids' pediatrician, it is recommended to have the kids jabbed with pneomococcal vaccination. We do travel a lot of times and it's best to protect the kids from pneomococcal disease. What really is pneomococcal disease?

Pneumococcal disease is a severe bacterial infection caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, also called pneumococcus. It may cause pneumonia, meningitis or a blood stream infection (bacteremia). Symptoms of pneumococcal dieases include an abrupt onset of fever and shaking or chills. Other common symptoms may include headache, cough, chest pain, disorientation, shortness of breath, weakness and occasionally a stiff neck. According to my kids' pediatrician, since kids are susceptible to this disease because we travel a lot.

So on our next month's kids' well visit, we would get a pneomococcal vaccination for the kids. It's better to prevent than to cure, yeah?

I just discovered a contest about the great american seafood . And I h cook off. have picked my choice. It's called Shrimp and Adouille Cassoulet. This recipe from Louisiana includes Louisiana Shrimp and Andouille sausage smothered in a white bean casserole. This dish is created by Chef Brian Landry of Louisiana. One thing I like about this recipe is it uses a lot of healthy stuff. If I make it myself, I wouldn't alter any. The recipe is just perfect. My husband and I love eating seafood. We both can eat non-stop (but of course, we have to stop because everything in excess is not good for our health. The other thing I like about this is that the recipe looks very simple to follow. I just need to have the right ingredients and voila! I can probably be like Landry. The ingredients are not hard to find either. They're all available locally. You know when it's local, you're assured of its freshness, right? And when its fresh, it's the best. One way to find out whether the shrimp is fresh or not is that the fresh shrimp would taste a bit sweet and juicy which make up to a great taste. Those are just the benefits of fresh seafood. I hope the recipe for shrimp and adouille cassoulet will win! Do you want to cast your vote to the greatest seafood and win a trip to New Orleans? Then visit their website at www.greatamericanseafoodcookoff.com. I just voted mine. I hope my chosen recipe wins. I just realized that the winners (for those who vote) will have a great prize as they will give away a prize package including two Southwest Airline roundtrip tickets, hotel accommodations, dining experiences and more!

i have been sleeping late lately. i don't have my computer now coz it crashed. had to send for fixing. i've been using husband's lappy so i can only use it at night. last night was very bad. i started doing my assignments quite late already because somehow i didn't have any idea how to start writing. had a writer's block, i guess. so i just chatted with a couple of friends for awhile until the light bulb finally came in. i got to bed at 4:00am because after the first assignment, i was able to write four more assignments (plus interims) and had to wake up at 7:30am to prepare my boy to school and samantha and myself to go to her playgroup. and guess what... i got up, looked into the mirror and saw one huge acne in the middle of my forehead. Guess I should sleep early tonight... if no assignment will come through, of course. :)

we're one year overdue with my kids' vaccination! arrgghh! just didn't have time to go to the hospital for vaccination, or the kids would be sick by the time we plan to send them for jabs. well, today, we have finally set an appointment and the kids got their long overdue jabs. samantha had MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B booster and 1st DTP and Polio Booster all at the same time. the hepatitis b and dtp polio booster should be injected one year ago. better late than never, the pediatrician said. schenker just completed all his vaccination required (even Hepatitis A Booster) for his age, got all the boosters and everything. so now, we're planning to have a chicken pox vaccination for him, it's not required and not 100% effective. but the vaccination would make it milder if in case he gets chicken pox. i was a bit skeptical with MMR before because i have read from the internet that it could lead to autism. but i was assured by the pediatrician that MMR Vaccination is not the cause of autism. just glad that we have finally done all these.

samantha is developing quite well, her height is average and her weight is a little bit above average. but it's ok, the pediatrician said, it's just nice. her pediatrician was surprised when i told her samantha could string two to three words now to make a sentence... but the only thing is, when she says words that have more than one syllable, she would say it in one syllable sometimes, like Barney: she would say Be. Hehehe. Dr. Angelina, the pediatrician said that probably i don't talk to her more often. ayayay... the blogging must be the culprit. hehehe. anyway... she's fine and sometimes can say the right words. she's still learning. schenker could speak very well, she said. so i told her the teacher sometimes complain of him talking too much in the class. so she asked me whether he's disruptive. he is not. so it's fine. he's okay and he is focused. that's more important. (i was assuming she was asking for ADHD signs). hehehe.

all in all, i was happy with the kids' development. i just need to spend more time talking to samantha. and spend less time blogging? hmmmm... that's a tough question.

I have a friend that's using diet program from Mayo Clinic. From what I've heard, it is very effective. The program runs for 12 days and you have to stick to the plan, otherwise it will ruin everything. The only thing with this diet is you have to go low on carb (or no carbs at all) and no coffee too. I love drinking coffee. I'm not sure if ever I can endure this program.

Then there's this Jenny Craig program. The set back is that it takes too long to be able to lose weight. We need the kind of weight loss program that is fast and yet keeps you healthy. Another weight loss program that is taking too long to get results is the Weight watchers. I have discovered another program which is really refreshing as it brings result fast and rules our any serious health problems, obesity or even hormonal imbalances. The Fat Loss Guru is is very simple and easy to follow. You can start losing 7 pounds in 7 days which is generated specifically according to your needs and and desires. Wow. That is a great news indeed. It is really super fast to lose weight in just a week! The Fat Loss Guru also guarantees that if you stick to the program, you will gain fast result and experience a long term fat loss.

The other good thing (which is the best) about this program is that you can enjoy eating your favorite food and still lose weight. They are truly amazing. Going for a low calorie or low carb diet can be dangerous to your health. Low carb diet could have a negative effect on your brain, and sometimes can lead to nervous breakdown. Low fat diets don't work either. I have tried this low fat diet thingy and it just didn't work on me. I would go for the diet program that can make fat loss fast and at the same time, can make you healthy.

this sounds unbelievable... but it's been in a circulation nowadays. 2 moons are going to appear tomorrow, august 27, 2008 at 12:30am. This same thing happened in 2003 and it was quite spectacular. I didn't see it myself but read the news. I am hoping to see this one. They say that nobody alive today will ever see it again.

The reason why we will see two moons is that Mars will be come close to the Earth for approximately 34 Million miles and will be close to the earth's moon. So it would look like there are two bright moons in the sky.

Better mark your calendar guys. Oh wait, it's gonna happen in a few minutes. Have to go out and check.

it has been almost two years since we moved to this house. the owners of this house has been posted in Holland so they were looking for some people to rent and take care of their house. that time they opened this house for rent, we were also looking for a house to rent. so we waited until they moved to Holland so we could live here. it's pretty conducive, our location. the house is in front of the park (or shall i say the park is just in front of the house?) just open the gate and cross the road and you're at the park! my boy's school is just a walking distance too... probably 4 blocks away from the house. commercial area is also walking distance... probably 30 minute-walk. sometimes i don't mind just walking to the shops. good for exercise too. all these conveniences are to be considered when looking for commercial real estate, right? one more year and the owners are coming back. now we're thinking... should we go back to our apartment?

We're going to Samantha's playgroup (Tumble Tots - Subang Parade) again tomorrow. It has been 3 weeks now since we have started sending her. She absolutely loves it there. One thing I regret about Tumble Tots is that we didn't know it has been in Subang Parade for 10 years already! We didn't know there's a playgroup there! We used to drive all the way to Bangsar Village to send our boy to Gymboree. If we have known about Tumble Tots before, we wouldn't have sent our boy there. Not that we didn't like Gymboree. It was just very far from where we live. This is Tumble Tots playgroup program:

Designed to develop children's physical skills of agility, balance, co-ordination and climbing, through the use of brightly coloured Tumble Tots equipment.
The programme is structured to develop children's positive personality traits including confidence and self-esteem.
Each 45-minute weekly session combines fun, excitement and challenge in a safe and caring environment. All sessions use unique equipment and are run by staff specially trained to get the best out of your child. It is structured according to the different ages and stages of a child's development.

My First International Travel

We all have our own story of our firsts, right? One of my most unforgettable firsts was when I traveled international. It was my first time traveling in an airplane so when I got inside, I was all amazed at the features of the plane. It was Thai Airways so you can imagine how nice and big the plane was. I was with friends so my naivety didn't really show. But I made a mistake. I was trying all the buttons in my seat and wanted to see what happened. One of the stewardess came to me and asked me what I wanted. I wondered why she came to me, but I just told her I didn't need anything. Then later I realized I pressed the "help" button. Hehehe. Well, I couldn't help it. It was my first time. I needed to know everything.

My husband has his own story. He was aboard Delta Airways from his Atlanta tours. A stewardess came and asked him whether he wanted an earphone. he said yes straight away, thinking it was another free thing to get from the plane. The stewardess gave the earphone and said, 'It's for 3$ sir." My husband almost choked not because it was for sale but because he didn't expect he was going to pay for it.
Anyways, my husband is planning on a nice vacation in the US. And of course, since I haven't gone there yet, I wouldn't know where to go. I searched on the online travel guides and there I found this: Trusted Tours and Attractions. They offer discounted tickets to sightseeing tours in 23 cities in America. They also have New York Tour where they take you to the Top of the Rock Observation deck where you can see the whole of New York!

And if you sign up for the Trusted Travels eNewsletter and enter to win a $150 Magellan’s Gift Certificate. This offer ends August 31st, 2008. So if you want to win, better hurry and sign up now.

My girl is such an amazing girl. I went for a fish and foot spa and she joined me. She wasn't scared of the fish at all!

She was splashing the water so the fish was scared of her. Hehehe.

After the fish spa, I went for a foot scrub. It wasn't in the package but I wanted to try it. They basically scrubbed off the rough areas of my feet.
Samantha joined me for my foot scrub too. Good thing the girl who did my foot scrub was very gracious to include her in.

Hehehe. She just loved every moment of it, especially when the girl wrapped her feet in the plastic wrap.

The softening gel was okay for the kids because they used natural ingredients. She did for Samantha as well. Waahhh... Samantha's first ever foot spa was when she's 1 year and 7 months old! I had my first foot spa when I was already 30 years old. Kids are fast these days. They get all these kinds of exposure fast, I mean. Anyway, it was a good bonding time between mommy and daughter.

it's been a long time since my kids have developed their daily routine: wake up, shower, food, (school for schenker, play for samantha), pick up time, lunch, nap, park, dinner, books/play, shower, sleep. it's been like this ever since my boy started his school. i am glad that both of them have the same nap time. i nap with them sometimes too. how did i get them to nap in the afternoon at the same time? i bribed them into going to the park after they wake up from their nap. no nap, no park. both of them like going to the park for many reasons. the boy gets to meet a few of his classmates there. the girl gets to climb up and slide down the slides. both of them get to eat ice cream. it's a good exposure for them in terms of sports too because there will be people playing badminton, basketball, football, and even a few get to practice playing golf. it's not a shooting range, and couldn't pass for one but residents somehow use the park to practice golf. my kids get to pick some Ping Golf balls too. there are also exercises bar, like the push up bars and sit ups bar. my boy could do 5 sit ups. my girl still tries to do it. so now, almost everyday, we go to the park. it's part of the kids' daily routine.

Normal or Nuts?

Are You Normal or Nuts? There's an article in the Reader's Digest about this, for we, the article says, are group of nutty people. There are just so many quirks in us and we tend to think, is it normal, or am I just being nuts? There's one reader that asked Reader's Digest about being shy in talking to public:

>I don't like talking. I'm afraid people will think that what I say is stupid, even when there's no reason to assume that. I never talk on my cell phone in a public place, because bystanders might think I'm an idiot. Is that nuts?

I have found this mostly true for some Asians. We're just too shy to talk... to voice out our opinions. We are scared that we would sound stupid or silly if we say things. So we close our mouth and never say things at all. One of my family members also was like that. She refused to talk simply. Sometimes, she would just say, "okay" and acted like everything was okay. Until she started blogging. There, I realized that she has lots of opinions. She vents out her emotions and opinions in the blog. And you would never hear her talking about it in person! I think she needs to improve her self-esteem because it just shows how insecure she is. This is not the only quirks discussed in the article. There are more!

What about me, you ask. Do I have quirks? Yes! I do have. If I say no, then I'm not a real person. I find myself a seasonal person, which means, if I find something interesting, I would stick to doing it for a period of time. When I get bored, I move on to another interesting thing. You know, like a hobby. I would never have a one hobby that I like doing for a lifetime. It always changes. I hop from one hobby to another. Is this normal? Or am I being nuts?

What about you? Are You Normal or Nuts?. Care to share your quirks?

Well, it's a kind of a result after flirting with a partner and you end up having a messy hair after that steamy activity. Well, we all need to spice up our marriage, right?

The House Test

I had been taking personality tests or quizzes again. It's fun. Other people don't like to take personality tests because they said it's not very accurate. All I can say is that if you are true to yourself and honest with the answers, then it will surely give you an accurate result. some people will have different result because in their answers, that's how they want to project themselves... where in reality they're not like that. There would be some glitches here and there... but mostly, it gives you an honest result. If you're true to yourself.

What the House Test Says About You

You consider yourself important, but no more important than anyone else. You love attention, but you don't feel like you deserve more of it than anyone else.

You can't stand community oriented people and annoying "buy local" campaigns. You prefer to live the best life possible, and that doesn't really involve many other people.

You are creative, expressive, and bright. You are always in the middle of some amazing project.

You look attractive, but mostly because you rely on your natural good looks to get by.

You are moved by romance and love. You are optimistic about people, and you love hearing about happy endings.

Guidelines on Renting Properties

posted by Jan on , ,

Depending on the rental period, each must have set of guidelines to follow before signing off that contract. If you're renting for long period, here are the questions to ask:
  • is it conveniently located near the commercial areas i.e. banks, grocery stores, malls? - where we live now is very convenient as it is near the commercial area. banks are just 10 minute-drive from here. malls and grocery stores are just 15-minute drive.
  • is the school or church nearby? - my boy's school is just 4 blocks away from my house. it is pretty convenient to have a school nearby. i don't drive so i appreciate having his school to be of walking distance only... for about 10 minutes. that's why i recommend doing a research before buying or renting properties.
  • is the contract renewable?
  • is the water supply efficient? - it would be difficult if we have problem with water supply. last week, we had a very low pressure water system. our showers upstairs stopped working. i thought our water supply was cut off. we checked our downstairs shower and it worked well. so it was because of the low pressure that caused the trouble. so inconvenient.
  • does the property have the alarm system?
  • is the area gated?
All these and more must come in mind before buying or renting a property. Check out what I found about Oregon Vacation Rentals

I didn't know why. I thought probably the church has transformed into something warm and more hospitable. Hehehe. I joined the welcome anyway. Then later, the emcee announced that they're Malaysia's Badminton team that will join Olympic Games - Beijing 2008 in China. Then the team was called to stand in front for prayer. Most of them were not believers but it was awesome to see them giving it all to God!

As of this writing, 8 more hours to go before Beijing 2008! I can't wait to see. I always like the grand opening. Somehow it's always very dramatic. Pips, are you ready for Beijing 2008? I am!

Things To Do In Phuket

My husband is going to Phuket (again) for a meeting. I'm gonna miss this trip again because he only had a short notice of the meeting. If he knew before that he was going to Phuket, he would have arranged everything so I and the kids could go with him. Maybe next time. Hoping to visit Phuket again. It was my home for almost 3 years and indeed, I had a great time with great friends there.

Phuket is a tropical island found in the south of Thailand. It is an island surrounded by many small islands (islets). The island is very beautiful and you could do so many things while there:

  • Island hopping. You might want to see James Bond Island there. It was named as such because they used that place to shoot of of James Bond's movies.
  • Thai food. They're one of the best food in the world. Spicy but awesome. Try tom yum soup. You can choose which flavour you want: seafood, fish, chicken, beef. Som tam is very good too. My favorite is Kanom Jin. It is rice noodle topped with fish curry. Thais usually eat them for breakfast. I could eat them every day and never get tired of it.
  • Hotels. Hotels ranges from budget ones to luxury 5-star hotels. Depending on your budget. I found that there are many cheap hotels that have a very good amenities and service. They're probably nothing compared to las vegas hotels, but I can assure you you would love the services.

Cameron Highlands

One of my favorite holiday destinations is Cameron Highlands in Perak, Malaysia. The weather in Camerons is cool all year round. The coldest time of the year is from December to February where the temperature can drop to 10 degrees celcius at certain places. I love going there this time of year. I love its cool climate. In fact, it's where I and my husband spent our 5-day honeymoon. It was a perfect place for honeymooners, I tell you. Being in a cool climate can make it more cozy for people to spend time there. Hotels and resorts don't need to have an air condition unit because of it's cool air. It's really very cold for me, coming from a tropical sunny place that I've been. I love its coolness though. I have been there many times since our honeymoon but when my second child was born (and that was about almost two years ago), we haven't visited the place again. We're planning to go back there again in December though and I'm very excited about the trip. And that means I need to check out Cabin Cuddler. Heard they have perfect products for a cool-weathered place.

It would probably be great to sleep under their warm and cozy blanket. Actually, their products are not just good for rooms or cool places and such, they are good for travels too. And it's pretty convenient to take anywhere. You will be assured of its hygienic quality so you don't need to worry about sleeping and getting rashes or bug bites. Their travel blanket has a contour cut that covers every inch of your body. So you will feel warm and be able to sleep tight. That's the best thing.
